  • Totus Tuus

Totus Tuus, a Latin phrase meaning “Totally Yours,” was the motto of Pope Saint John Paul II, and everyone involved in the week is encouraged to give themselves entirely to Christ through Mary. The week is filled with faith, fun, and friendship. There are messy games, crazy skits, and silly songs. There is also daily Mass, Sacraments curriculum, and a focus on the joyful mysteries. Our missionary team of four well-trained college students teaches the content with joy and enthusiasm, and at the end of the week, we get to turn one of them into a 'human sundae' before an epic water wars battle. It's a week unlike any other and we want your kids there!

    Camp CGS

But whoever enters through the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens it for him, and the sheep hear his voice, as he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has driven out all his own, he walks ahead of them, and the sheep follow him, because they recognize his voice.  But they will not follow a stranger; they will run away from him, because they do not recognize the voice of strangers. (John 10:2-5)

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) came about through the work of two Roman Catholic laywomen in Rome: Sofia Cavalletti and Gianna Gobbi. They were inspired by the educational principles of Maria Montessori, also a devout Catholic, who believed that her “method” was fulfilled in teaching religious education. The materials that are prepared for the children, in a special space called the Atrium, are based on the Bible and liturgy. Time spent in the Atrium is slower, quieter, and perhaps even more intentional than a typical VBS or PSR classroom as it is child directed. The 'Spirit of God within the child' gives them some autonomy and allows their curiosity and sense of wonder to move them toward certain works.

Camp CGS offers an introduction to The Atrium and the methodology of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for our littlest saints in the making, while also including games, crafts, music, and time outside enjoying God's creation. We are excited about this year and look forward to the friendships made with Jesus and each other.
