St. Anselm Youth
This ministry is centered and based on the Eucharist as it focuses on leading teens closer to Christ. This is accomplished through the Mass and various activities. The weekly bulletin includes upcoming youth activity. The 6:30 p.m. Sunday Parish Mass is held in the Church. Life Nights and other youth ministry events take place prior to Mass from 4:00-5:30 p.m. Life Nights are a way to delve into our Catholic faith and examine how it affects us every day. They are great fun and a good time to just hang out with other Catholic teens.
Christ Power 2008
This Year’s ChristPower takes place in the Year of St. Paul. St. Paul had a privileged vision of Christ—he talked to him—and afterwards was completely clear about his vocation to bring the Gospel to the ends of the earth. In a real way we want to share that mission with our young people, and to have them share it with their peers. This is the theme of this year’s ChristPower. It takes place from Sunday evening, June 15 to Saturday NOON, June 21.
There is a good representation from St. Anselm this year. As you remember, we are one of the three founding parishes of ChristPower, and this year is the 13th year of operation at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary. From the beginning this was a retreat sponsored by the Vocations Office of the Archdiocese, and in particular by Father Mike Butler. Over the years we have seen the fruit of our work in a growing number of vocations to the priesthood in St. Louis, and also to several women’s religious orders in our Archdiocese.
I am not at all shy in asking for some help from you, our parishioners to subsidize the cost for our youth for this week. The cost is $200. Some of our teens can easily afford this fee, and some need help. Last year I received a number of voluntary contributions from parishioners, and providential, we came out exactly even. This year I am in the background for the planning of our week, although I go to some of the planning meetings. Our Youth minister, Rick Willmann, is doing all the work. However, I plan to be part of the retreat this year—as I have for the past years—from start to finish.
