Programs include Archdiocesan sponsored Adult Education programs, Scripture Study, Days of Prayer during Advent and Lent, educational video programs and discussion groups, and Sacramental programs for parents of children preparing to celebrate sacraments for the first time.

Guidelines for Lenten Fast and Abstinence

Ash Wednesday and Good Friday Abstinence (from meat only) for all over 14 years of age; fast as well as abstinence for those 18-59.
Fast and abstinence means one full meal a day as well as abstinence from meat. Other two meals are to be small and nothing eaten between meals.

All other Fridays in Lent — Abstinence from meat only. On all other days of Lent we are to follow our own conscience in making this a time of prayer and penance.

LENTEN BROWN BAG MOVIE SERIES

There will be a Brown Bag Movie Series at the Parish House at NOON on Tuesdays through April 7, 2009. A movie or documentary will be shown regarding a special theme of the Lenten/ Easter Season or a special place, event, person or saint. Just bring your lunch and enjoy the movie. Drinks will be provided. Each movie lasts approximately 30-100 minutes.

This week's (April 7) topic is: Did Jesus Really Rise From The Dead?
A Critical Examination of the Facts about the Resurrection of Jesus. This film from Ignatius Press carefully scrutinizes the historical evidence. Rather than accept Christian belief blindly, top scholars and biblical historians critically examine alternative explanations. In the end, they show why it is a matter of sound reason as well as faith to affirm what the early Church proclaimed: Jesus is risen. (56 minutes)

The Year of St. Paul

Saint Paul ApostlePeriodically, the Church sets aside an entire year for the opportunity to focus on an important aspect of our Faith. This year, in order to commemorate the 2000 th anniversary of the birth of Apostle Paul, we will celebrate The Year of St. Paul, which began June 28, 2008 and concludes June 29, 2009. Here are some suggestions on ways to celebrate The Year of St. Paul: Read St. Paul’s Writings – select a book about St. Paul for spiritual reading or invite others to celebrate the life of Paul through a group Bible study; Make a Mini-Pilgrimage – travel to churches and other places of pilgrimage dedicated to St. Paul in our area; Pray in Faith and Thanksgiving – pray for each of the countries to which Paul traveled; pray for the unity of all Christian churches; Spread the Gospel – volunteer to be a catechist or serve in some other capacity in our Parish; participate in local ecumenical discussions; donate to a missionary order and pray for their ministries.
